What do we know about the song so far?


The new track is titled “I Knew It, I Knew You.” It’s set to arrive on streaming platforms this Friday, June 5, and it already sounds like it’s going to lean heavily into emotional storytelling. It’s also inspired by Jessie’s ongoing storyline (remember, she’s the cowgirl character voiced by Joan Cusack), as she continues the journey she began in Toy Story 2.

Swift revealed the announcement on Instagram, sharing that she first saw Toy Story 5 while it was in early development. “I’ve always dreamed of getting to write for these characters who I’ve adored since I was a 5-year-old kid watching the first Toy Story movie,” she wrote in the post. “I fell instantly in love with Toy Story 5 when I was lucky enough to see it in its early stages, and I wrote this song as soon as I got home from the screening. Sometimes you just know, right?”

That caption alone is fueling expectations that the track will lean into nostalgia and a possible return to her country-influenced roots. Swift also co-wrote and produced the song with her longtime friend and collaborator Jack Antonoff, which points to the familiar cinematic and detail-rich production that we know well.

The reactions have been enthusiastic so far, with fans expressing excitement about the release and eagerly discussing what the song might be about. The anticipation isn’t limited to Swifties either. The Kansas City Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes, a longtime friend of teammate Travis Kelce and now Swift, shared Swift’s post to his Instagram Stories shortly after she uploaded it on June 1.

Fans are also taking over the comments on Taylor Nation’s TikTok announcement. The post basically became a celebration thread, with Swifties locked in on the song’s collector’s edition CDs (there are three versions—standard, acoustic and piano). People are already posting things like, “Got my preorder, can’t believe I was able to get all three” and “I can’t wait for the vinyl.”

There’s a small but very heated debate happening too. Some fans feel the title “I Knew It, I Knew You” sounds a little too close to Gracie Abrams’s “I Love You, I’m Sorry,” especially since that 2020 track includes a similar-sounding lyric (“I knew it, I know you”).

Still, the overall vibe is very clear: People expect this to be one of those subtly devastating Pixar songs that sounds sweet on first listen … and then suddenly has you staring at a wall thinking about your entire childhood.
