Elle Woods Is Back! Get the Details and Check Out the Brand-New Trailer for the Legally Blonde Prequel

Who else immediately wanted to dig out a pink cardigan and rewatch Legally Blonde the second the new Elle trailer dropped? Because we certainly did! It’s been 25 years since the original movie came out, but somehow the idea of seeing a teenage Elle Woods before Harvard Law feels absolutely essential.

Prime Video’s first glimpse of the new series is giving peak ’90s nostalgia, glossy fashion moments and that same bubbly confidence we all fell in love with way back when. Only this time, Elle’s not heading to Harvard. She’s navigating high school, awkward crushes and apparently a very rainy Seattle.

Read on to find out everything we know so far, including the plot, the cast and exactly what that trailer revealed!

What did the trailer reveal?

The new trailer gives us our first look at actress Lexi Minetree as teenage Elle Woods, and she totally captures that signature Elle energy. The 2026 series, which takes place in 1995, follows Elle during her high school years before she became the Harvard-bound queen we know from the original film.

The plot? Elle and her family move from sunny Bel-Air to gloomy Seattle after her dad gets a new job. So yes, we’re getting a classic fish-out-of-water storyline, which already feels very on brand for the Legally Blonde universe. According to the official synopsis, Elle will feature “tricky friendships, forbidden romance and questionable fashion choices,” which sounds exactly like the kind of teen mayhem we want from this show. And while this isn’t necessarily shown in the new trailer, the teaser does pay homage to the 2001 classic by featuring “Perfect Day,” the same song used in the film.

While Elle is clearly still figuring herself out, the teaser shows flashes of the confidence and heart that made everyone love her in the first place, including her undying love of pink. The show will also explore how her family, especially her relationship with her mom, helped shape her into the woman we eventually meet at Harvard.

Will Reese Witherspoon be in the series?

Of course, Reese Witherspoon was the original Elle, but it doesn’t look like she’ll appear in the series—which makes sense since this is a prequel centered around teenage Elle Woods.

But Reese is still heavily involved behind the scenes. The series comes from her production company, Hello Sunshine, and she serves as an executive producer on the project. She’s actually been one of the biggest champions of the show from the start, and she even helped cast the new Elle after an open audition search.

Who stars in the series?

Newcomer Lexi Minetree leads the series as Elle, and early reactions are excellent. People are praising how well she channels Witherspoon’s original performance while still making the role her own.

The supporting cast includes Chandler Kinney as Kimberly, one of Elle’s rivals at school; Jacob Moskovitz as Miles, a popular athlete who becomes interested in Elle; and Gabrielle Policano as Liz, who’s described as basically the opposite of Elle in every way. Actors June Diane Raphael and Tom Everett Scott play Elle’s parents, Eva and Wyatt Woods.

We will also see the late James Van Der Beek, in one of his final roles.

When is the series coming out?

You’ll have to wait a little bit longer—but not too much longer, thankfully! Elle premieres July 1, 2026, on Amazon Prime Video. And while Prime Video hasn’t confirmed the episode rollout schedule yet, we do know that Season 1 has been completed and Season 2 is already being planned.

Now excuse us while we go rewatch Legally Blonde for the hundredth time and prepare emotionally for teenage Elle Woods taking over our summer.

Will Cicadas Destroy Your Garden? 10 Things You Need to Know

It’s easy to wince thinking about the mass emergence of insects like cicadas. Their numbers can reach millions per acre, creating a near-deafening buzzing chorus. So it’s understandable that questions like, “Will cicadas eat my plants?” immediately spring to mind. But cicadas are also pretty fascinating and play important roles in the ecosystem. “Cicadas inspire wonder in our world!” says Jennifer Hopwood, senior pollinator conservation specialist at the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation. “They spend most of their life underground next to the same plant roots. Somehow, these creatures are able to track the years that pass by and time their emergence with other periodical cicadas in the region to overwhelm predators. They are amazing little critters.” Here’s a rundown of what to know about cicadas, good and bad, including whether or not they eat plants and how to protect your trees during an emergence.
