Will 2026’s Year of the Horse Be Your Best Yet? Numerology Experts Think So—Here’s Why

After an exhausting 2025, everyone and their mother could use a little break. (I know I could!) And thankfully, 2026’s Year of the Fire Horse will provide that and so much more. Not only will it disrupt the stressful cycles you’ve been dealing with, but it will also give you the confidence, energy and momentum you need to succeed. “I tell my clients: In a climate this hot and this fast, you can’t afford to be a spectator,” says classical feng shui practitioner Peggy Sol. “You are either riding the horse or getting in its way.”

And it’s not just the Chinese zodiac’s magic at work here: Numerology will also be a huge factor in your success this year. If you’re not all that familiar with numerology, it’s an ancient system that analyzes the patterns, meaning and frequency behind numbers. The numbers 1 through 9 all have spiritual significance, and by understanding their meanings, we can better understand our lives and the energy of a particular year.

In short? From a numerological perspective, 2026 has the potential to be epic—leading to fame and recognition and releasing the baggage we’ve all been carrying since 2017. (Yes, 2017!) But there are a few things you need to know about how to maximize its potential, including how your own personal life path number will interact with it.

I spoke with Sol, who is also a numerologist, and Nataliia Myronova, a feng shui expert and spiritual advisor, to get all the details on how numerology and this Lunar New Year dovetail in a pretty perfect way. Read on to find out why 2026 is such a powerful year in numerology and how to make this your best year yet.

How does numerology play into a year’s vibe?

Just like each of us has a life path number, each calendar year has something called a universal number that serves as “the year’s underlying operating system,” according to Sol. By identifying it, you can figure out what the year ahead will be like.

To calculate it, simply add the digits of a year and reduce the sum to a single digit. For 2026, here’s how it breaks down: 2 + 0 + 2 + 6 = 10, and 1 + 0 = 1, which gives us a universal year of 1.

“In classical numerology, a ‘1’ marks the start of a new nine-year cycle,” Myronova says. “It’s a year for fresh starts—an ideal time to begin something new—because the number 1 is associated with leadership, initiative, new beginnings and renewal.”

How does 2026’s universal number mesh with the Year of the Horse?

When you have a universal year 1, it’s like getting a green light for anything you want to do. This is also the overarching theme for 2026’s Year of the Horse, so it’s a double whammy—in the best way possible.

According to Sol, this year will embody three major traits: innovation, justice and reset. A “1” year is all about creating something that wasn’t there before. “It’s not the time to polish old ideas; it’s time to invent new ones,” she explains. “It’s about being the first to market, the first to pivot and the first to say, ‘There’s a better way to do this.’”

However, the year’s energy will also have a grounded perspective, “forcing us to look at how we treat others within our systems” and standing up for what’s right. It will also reorganize all existing foundations, which leads to a reset. “You can’t build a skyscraper on an old foundation,” Sol says.

In order to build the skyscraper of our lives, we’re going to have to sweep the proverbial deck and start fresh. If the Year of the Snake didn’t already clear out old relationships, 2026 definitely will. “People are excited because they finally have the permission to let go of what’s been dragging them down since 2017 and start fresh.”

How does your personal numerology number interact with the Year of the Horse’s numerology?

Your personal numerology number, called your life path number, is kind of like your zodiac sign—it reveals some fundamental truths and inherent traits about you based on your birthdate. To find your life path number, you’ll use the same process as above to determine a year’s universal number. Add all the digits in your birth date, and single it down to one digit. For example, someone born on Feb. 1, 1989 (02/01/1989) would add together 0 + 2 + 0 + 1 + 1 + 9 + 8 + 9 = 30. Then 3 + 0 = 3. So, that person’s life path number would be 3.

Now try it with your own birthdate! Once you do, read below for Sol’s 2026 numerological horoscopes for each life path number.

Life path 1

This is a great time to take advantage of your innovative spirit and commit to working with more quality people. “While your charitable nature often attracts backstabbers, 2026 shifts your focus toward high-level communication,” Sol says. “Use this year to connect people and build bridges; your voice is your most valuable asset right now.”

Attend networking events, sign up for conferences, do talks and speeches, and put yourself out there! Your visibility will be at an all-time high, and putting yourself in the spotlight will attract many more opportunities.

Life path 2

You tend to think outside the box and have a different perspective than others. This means you often have unconventional beliefs, but you’re not afraid to talk about them. “In 2026, the energy shifts from talk to feeling,” Sol says, “and it’s going to be an emotional rollercoaster.”

Because of that, it’s important that you tune in to your body and focus on grounding practices, such as doing yoga, going for walks, running or meditating. “Lean into the spiritual or physical outlets like sports to ground yourself,” Sol says, “because if you don’t manage the ride, the ups and downs will manage you.”

Life path 3

With a natural charm and childlike spark, you usually have fun first and get serious later. However, “this is the year to grow up, energetically speaking,” Sol says. “2026 is about learning and creating the structures and systems that will actually hold your big ideas together.”

One thing that might be helpful this year? Recording your reflections in a journal. This can help calm the monkey mind and allow you to nurture your big ideas instead of letting them float away.

Life path 4

Sol calls you the mechanic of the world. You’re the one who plans, judges and often criticizes, and yep, you sometimes lean hard into perfectionism. “2026 is going to test that,” Sol says. “It’s a year of obstacles that will force you to make tough decisions and choices. Stop overanalyzing, and start deciding!”

Encourage yourself to make those choices by practicing breathwork and meditation. Quieting the brain can really help you home in on you. Remember: You already know the answer. You just need to allow yourself to share it.

Life path 5

You’re a builder and risk taker, but your ideas just weren’t sticking in 2025, and that was incredibly frustrating! “2026 offers a much-needed pivot,” Sol says. “You’ll likely see the money follow your efforts or find yourself grounding that energy into family life.”

You might feel drained from last year, but this is the best year for taking inspired action. Tap back into your risk-taker self, and try to put forth those new ideas again. You’ll be surprised at just how well they’ll stick this time.

Life path 6

Typically, you like control, but that intensity can push people away. “This year, trade the ‘control’ for ‘connection,’” Sol says. “2026 is about networking and forming support groups that can help you carry the load.”

Share a secret, get vulnerable, offer more of your heart and have a little more trust. The connections you make in the midst of softness and vulnerability will be the deepest kind of connection.

Life path 7

Debating is fun for you, and Sol says “you sometimes argue just for the sake of the debate.” If you’re nodding your head over there, save your energy this year and skip the petty arguments. “2026 is a high-intensity, busy year where you’ll be chasing major opportunities,” Sol says. “It’s going to be stressful, so focus on the win, not the argument.”

You can be incredibly reactionary, but this year, try to find peace before sharing answers or thoughts. When someone says something triggering or emotionally charged, take a small breath, then count to five in your head before replying.

Life path 8

As one of the hardest workers, you’re always taking extra shifts, adding more responsibility and forgetting to ask for your own needs to be met. But guess what? “2026 is your harvest year,” Sol says. “It’s a time of completion where you’ll finally see the hard-earned results and outcomes of the businesses or projects you’ve been grinding on.”

Put down your proverbial weapons, and allow the good things to come. This is the year to receive. A small way to do this is to say thank you after every compliment, as opposed to brushing them off or saying something controversial.

Life path 9

You are a meticulous planner, and you’re always well aware of your needs. But sometimes, you can be a little self-centered. “In 2026, that ‘me first’ energy finally gets a legitimate outlet,” Sol says. Translation: It’s a great time to think of what you need and act on that.

Essentially, try new things, and be open to new paths. “It’s your Year of the Start—expect a new job, home or family dynamic,” Sol explains. “Stop planning, and start leading; the year rewards proactive action.”

What does this mean for you in 2026?

Big things, and a sense of relief! And Myronova suggests one big way to capitalize on this year’s amazing energy: Start something new—ideally, right at the beginning of the year. “Those early actions can shape not only 2026 but the next nine years as well,” she says. “In the first half of 2026, bold changes are encouraged: a career change, a move, a new hobby, travel, new relationships or a new direction in how you live or work.”

After all, Fire Horse energy isn’t about what already exists. It’s about what we can create—what we can begin or reinvent.

And overall, do your best to match the catalytic, unbridled energy of the Fire Horse and 2026’s infinite possibilities. Try new things, embrace the year’s potential, and focus on fast, aligned and inspired movement. When you do that, anything can happen!

Will Cicadas Destroy Your Garden? 10 Things You Need to Know

It’s easy to wince thinking about the mass emergence of insects like cicadas. Their numbers can reach millions per acre, creating a near-deafening buzzing chorus. So it’s understandable that questions like, “Will cicadas eat my plants?” immediately spring to mind. But cicadas are also pretty fascinating and play important roles in the ecosystem. “Cicadas inspire wonder in our world!” says Jennifer Hopwood, senior pollinator conservation specialist at the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation. “They spend most of their life underground next to the same plant roots. Somehow, these creatures are able to track the years that pass by and time their emergence with other periodical cicadas in the region to overwhelm predators. They are amazing little critters.” Here’s a rundown of what to know about cicadas, good and bad, including whether or not they eat plants and how to protect your trees during an emergence.
