Disney World Is Closing Another Beloved Attraction This Summer—Here’s What You Need to Know
No matter how old you are or where you’re from, there is one thing everyone has in common: We all have a favorite Disney movie that can instantly brighten our day. And if you’ve ever been to Disney World, you probably have a favorite ride too—you could go on it a hundred times and never get bored. While most of us don’t have the privilege of going whenever we want (darn geography!), we do want to go for a whirl on that favorite ride when we visit … but sometimes those rides close and we miss our chance.
Unfortunately, that’s what’s happening this summer with a huge fan fave, according to a new Disney announcement. But while it’s definitely a bummer, thankfully this attraction isn’t closing forever like others that we recently learned were on the chopping block. Still, if a trip to Disney is in the cards and you really love this ride, you may want to plan accordingly.
Keep reading to find out everything we know about the Disney World attraction that’s closing—including when you can expect it to reopen again.

What Disney World attraction is closing?
Get ready to say goodbye to Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin at Disney World’s Magic Kingdom for a little while. The beloved Disney World attraction is closing for updates and enhancements that will ultimately make this Tomorrowland attraction better than ever. But we’d be lying if we said we weren’t sad to see it close even temporarily!
When is it closing?
Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin is expected to close for improvements in August. That means that if you’ve got a trip to Disney World planned for early this summer, you can still get in a few rounds against Emperor Zurg before it closes. If you want to plan a visit to the theme park before the attraction shuts down, now is the time to book your tickets!
When will it reopen?
Don’t worry, because Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin won’t be closed to infinity and beyond! It’s only going to be closed temporarily, just like Big Thunder Mountain, and will reopen sometime in 2026. While there’s no specific reopening date scheduled just yet, Disney World will reopen the attraction as soon as it’s ready for guests.
What can guests expect when it reopens?
Disney doesn’t mess around with its updates. You’ll notice the first change when you walk through the entrance and see a brand-new character, a friendly robot named Buddy who will help you prepare for your mission. The even more exciting part, however, comes with the ride itself, which will boast updated vehicles tricked out with with video monitors that help keep score in real time. The new and improved vehicles will also have handheld blasters, giving you better aim, with lasers that help light up your mission along the way. You’ll also experience new lighting, sound and vibration effects, so it will truly feel like you’re on adventure in outer space—Disney-style, of course.
But perhaps best of all, the targets will be upgraded to be interactive. That means they’ll react and even light up when you hit them, putting you right there in the center of the action in this legendary fight. Take that, Emperor Zurg!
By the time these renovations are complete, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin just might be your favorite Disney World ride—if it isn’t already.
