Innovative Octaspring technology provides a breathable sleep surface and targeted pressure point relief.

What is the Dormeo mattress topper?

TheDormeo mattress topper is a three-inch memory foam topper made up of eight-sided all-foam springs that the brand calls Octaspring technology. These springs are laid out in a honeycomb design with a layer of memory foam on each side and create a supportive sleep surface that is eight times more breathable than traditional memory foam. Better yet, the Octasprings are arranged to provide three-zone support. Firmer Octasprings cradle your hips and back in the middle of the topper, while softer Octasprings make up the zones around your shoulders and legs.

The Dormeo mattress topper has medium firmness and is available in seven sizes. Every size has a non-slip bottom and adjustable corner straps to keep it securely in place while you sleep.

How we tested it

Dormeo Premium Mattress Topper

Our tester, Leah Groth, is a hot sleeper who frequently experiences lower back pain and tightness around her neck. She often struggles to get comfortable at night. With its cooling properties and targeted pressure point relief, the Dormeo mattress topper appeared to be exactly what she needed for a good night’s sleep.

The Dormeo mattress topper arrived in a single box that Groth could lift and move on her own. However, she did point out that at around 30 pounds, it was the heaviest topper she tested. Additionally, once she removed the mattress from the plastic, she found that it was harder to maneuver than the others. “It is heavier and less flexible,” she explains. Still, it only took her about five minutes to get this topper out of the box and onto her bed.

Groth was pleased to discover that it inflated quickly and there were no unpleasant smells emanating from it. She also appreciated the topper’s adjustable straps, noting that they are especially convenient for anyone with a very thin or super thick mattress. What she didn’t like, however, was the fit. Groth found that it was actually bigger than her mattress and hung off of the edges a bit. Still, the topper stayed firmly in place and she was able to sleep comfortably.

After five nights on the Dormeo mattress topper, Groth found that her back pain had improved. Because the topper is so firm, it prevents my back from sinking into the bed, she explains. However, it provides support at pressure points. I definitely noticed that my back was less achy, and my neck didnt feel so strained after sleeping on it for a few nights. Moreover, this topper kept her nice and cool while she slept.

Although this topper alleviated her back pain and prevented her from overheating at night, Groth ultimately decided not to keep it. “I do prefer a softer mattress, especially for side sleeping as I tend to shift positions in the night,” she says. “While it did offer pressure point relief for side sleeping, I didn’t feel super comfortable.” In addition to this topper being too firm, Groth also would have preferred a smoother cover. She could feel the hexagon impressions through her sheets and mattress protector.

Overall, Groth recommends the Dormeo mattress topper to anyone who likes the feel of a firmer mattress. “It is definitely well-made with high quality materials,” she raves. “It seems like it would last a long time, especially since the waterproof cover keeps it super protected.”
