When will Freaky Friday 2 be released?
You’ll have to wait a little longer for the moviebut not too much longer. Freakier Friday will hit theaters on Aug. 8, 2025, according to Disney.
It’s been a long time coming. Fans began speculating about Freaky Friday 2 after Curtis’s appearance on The View in October 2022, during which she shared an intriguing concept for the sequel, imagining herself as a grandmother who swaps places with Lohan once again. “So then Lindsay gets to be the sexy grandma, who is still happy with Mark Harmon in all the ways you would be happy with Mark Harmon,” she said. “I would like to see Lindsay be the hot grandma, and I would like to see me try to deal with toddlers today. I wanna be a helicopter parent in today’s world, as an old lady.”
The buzz around the sequel only intensified after Curtis celebrated the film’s 20th anniversary in 2023. This inspired her to reach out to Disney, igniting more discussions about bringing the beloved characters back to life. As I went around the world withHalloween Ends, people wanted to know if there was going to be anotherFreaky Friday,” Curtis recalled in a New York Times interview last May. “Something really touched a chord. Yesand in fact, filming for Freaky Friday 2 has already wrapped! Filming began on June 24, 2024, in Los Angeles, and finished just two months later in August. Lohan shared the news on Instagram on Aug. 21, 2024, and Curtis followed up with her own heartfelt tribute to both the film and Lohan.

What is the plot of Freaky Friday 2?
Set 20 years after the original, Freakier Friday follows Lohans character, Anna, who now has a 14-year-old daughter named Harper … who isnt too thrilled about her moms new husband, British restaurateur Eric Davies. To make things more complicated, Davies has his own 14-year-old daughter, Lily, and the two girls dont exactly get along. Much like the 2023 movie, this one focuses on the mother-daughter relationship and involves some magic that causes characters to swap bodies, ultimately prompting them to better understand each other.
But there’s a twist: Curtis and Lohans characters wont be switching bodies this time aroundinstead, theyll be swapping bodies with the two teenage girls! Anna and Tess will switch bodies with Harper and Lily, with Anna becoming Harper and Tess stepping into Lilys shoes. As Curtis describes it: Its the original group, just freakier.”
In an interview with Good Morning America, Curtis also calls film alove letter to mommies, daughters and families. This movie celebrates mothers and the beauty of those relationships.
Who is part of the Freaky Friday 2 cast?
Curtis and Lohan arent the only familiar faces returning for the Freaky Friday sequelChad Michael Murray is officially back to reprise his role as Annas love interest Jake. And the reunion doesnt stop there: Fans can also look forward to seeing a bunch of original cast members, including Mark Harmon (Ryan, Tess’s husband), Christina Vidal Mitchell (Anna’s best friend Maddie), Haley Hudson (Anna’s other best friend Peg), Rosalind Chao (Pei-Pei, owner of the restaurant that gave Anna and Tess the body-swapping fortune cookies), Lucille Soong (Pei-Peis mom) and Stephen Tobolowsky (Mr. Bates, Anna’s strict high school teacher).
Of course, some new actors will round out the cast, including Maitreyi Ramakrishnan (Never Have I Ever), Julia Butters (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood), Sophia Hammons (The Social Dilemma) and Manny Jacinto (The Good Place). Jacinto will be playing Anna’s new husband, Eric Davies.
And while we don’t know if the film is set up as a potential love triangle, Curtis had some interesting things to say when Entertainment Weekly asked her about Murray reprising his role as Jake. Chad is in it,” she said. “And boy, oh boy, is Chad in it.”Intrigued? We certainly are!
